Founded in 1760, Lanson is one of the oldest Champagne Houses. Drawing on a family heritage and unique expertise, respect for nature, care for others, and creativity have guided the men and women of the House for over 265 years.
1798
Adoption of the Maltese Cross as the company emblem
In 1798, Maison Lanson adopted the Maltese Cross as its emblem, in tribute to the son of the house’s founder, a member of the Hospitaller Order of Malta. This symbol of openness, kindness and hospitality, since reinvented as the Croix Lanson, still adorns the Maison's bottles.

Creation of the first Lanson Rosé
Maison Lanson cellar records show that the first Rosé was created in 1833.

Allocation of the Royal Warrant
On December 4, 1900, Maison Lanson became one of the first Champagne Houses to receive the Royal Warrant from Queen Victoria, a prestigious distinction awarded by the British monarch to suppliers to the Royal Court of England. The Royal Warrant was subsequently renewed by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, perpetuating the royal link established by her great-grandmother, and was worn with pride and gratitude for 122 years, until the Queen's death in 2022. This exceptional relationship testifies to Lanson's deep commitment to excellence and tradition, as well as to the sincere bond of trust that has united the House with the Royal Family.

Birth of Black Label
Victor Lanson created an iconic cuvée that he named "Le Black Label"—a name that reflects the House’s spirit of openness and pays tribute to its ties with the Royal Court of England. In 2023, Hervé Dantan reimagined Le Black Label with Le Black Création.

Launch of Rosé Lanson
Maison Lanson decided to make its Rosé Champagne a signature cuvée that embodies the elegance and freshness characteristic of the Lanson style, revealing delicate fruity notes. In 2024, Hervé Dantan reinterprets Le Rosé with Le Rosé Création.

Building a priceless heritage
In 1976, the Lanson family decided to build up a collection of its most exceptional and promising Vintages. Today, this ever-expanding collection has become a collection of priceless treasures, embodying the memory of the House of Lanson and paying tribute to the unique expertise of its successive Cellar Masters.

Lanson, Official Champagne of Wimbledon
La Maison becomes a partner of the Wimbledon tournament, the oldest tennis tournament in the world and one of the four Grand Slams on the annual professional tennis circuit.

Noble Cuvée is born
Maison Lanson unveils its prestige cuvée Noble Cuvée. In 2022, this exceptional champagne is reinvented as Noble Champagne.

2010
Acquisition of the Malmaison Estate, pilot vineyard of Maison Lanson
The desire to commit to future viticulture, focused on biodiversity and sustainability, has led Maison Lanson to write a new chapter in its story by acquiring the Malmaison Estate in 2010.
It has been farmed organically since this year. This vineyard which has since been awarded AB and Demeter certification constitutes one of the largest biodynamically-farmed estates in Champagne. Le Green Bio-Organic is made exclusively from grapes from the Malmaison Estate.

Hervé Dantan, new Cellar Master
Combining a sense of heritage with expertise, our Cellar Masters have perpetuated for over 260 years a characterful, fresh and elegant style. When he joined as Cellar Master in 2013, Hervé Dantan set by enriching this heritage: he took the precision of our blends even further, redesigned our vinification facilities, reshaped our expertise and worked to develop cultural practices to enhance wine quality.

A new high-profile vinification facilities
In 2014, in order to preserve our signature style while improving the quality of our blends, Hervé Dantan redesigned our vinification facilities, guided by the quest for excellence that he shares with Maison Lanson.
Invesments were made leading to a one-of-a-kind facilities: a single plot cuverie dedicated to the depth and the precision of blends and a Chai bois to serve the reserve wines’ library of Maison Lanson.
2014
Launch of Le Clos Lanson first vintage
Champagne is home to mythical clos surrounded by walls, creating a unique and very special microclimate. Like a secret garden, Le Clos Lanson is one of the most unique and oldest located in the heart of the city of Reims.
Vinified separately since 2006, this unique plot with rare and exceptional characteristics will give birth to the first vintage of Clos Lanson in 2016 after a long aging in cellars.
