"Terroirs, People, Wines"

As a leading light in the Champagne region, Maison Lanson is committed to a CSR approach that expresses with key actions in the environmental, social and economic fields, all reflected in a clear vision entitled “Terroirs, People, Wines”.

Terroirs

Respect for the terroir is a primary concern for Maison Lanson, which is committed to a more sustainable viticulture, favoring the balance of soil, plants and people. This commitment is reflected in both its own vineyard and those of its partner growers, who are equally driven by a constant quest for quality and a love of terroir.

A certified vineyard

In addition to its Haute Valeur Environnementale-certified vineyard, since 2010 Maison Lanson has owned one of the largest vineyards in Champagne to be cultivated organically and biodynamically: Domaine de la Malmaison, located at the heart of the Vallée de la Marne. Based on the observation of vine and weather, it is farmed biodynamically, using viticulturalmethods that are respectful of fauna, flora, soil and people. This estate is a real-life testing ground, working to promote biodiversity and the health of the vine. It requires meticulous care performed by hand, bridging the gap between practices passed down over generations and the most precise techniques, the fruit of a constant quest for innovation. The team at the Malmaison Estate is a small one driven by a love of nature and a job well done. People work in symbiosis with a demanding environment that requires precision, care and patience.

A comprehensive approach to sustainable development

In addition to owning a sixteen-hectare vineyard that is farmed biodynamically, Maison Lanson is committed to sustainable viticulture both for its own vineyard and for its supplies by supporting
its par tner growers in their transition towards certified viticulture through the founding of the first collective structure by a Champagne house, in 2018. In accordance with the requirements defined by the Champagne interprofession and the Ministry of Agriculture, which certify the Viticulture Durable en Champagne (Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne – VDC) and Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value – HVE) labels, Maison Lanson is forging a path of support based on exchange, sharing and the commitment of each person towards virtuous practices that are mindful of biodiversity and societal and environmental standards.

Our carbon footprint

Aware of climate issues and keen to reduce its carbon footprint, Maison Lanson carried out its first carbon assessment in 2022, with a view to optimizing resources. To take more global action against climate change, the same year the House  joined International Wineries for Climate Action, a joint international programme whose aim is to reduce the carbon footprint of the wine industry by sharing best practices and drawing up an international action plan. Lanson was the first Champagne House to join the IWCA, among the forty or so members around the world.

Innovation and eco-design

Sustainable development is a source of creativity for our teams, who have been committed to eco-design for the past ten years. This commitment has led to the use of mainly lightweight, tinted bottles produced in France, the development of single-material packs such as our Clos Lanson box, the elimination of superfluous packaging and the use of 100% recyclable, FSC-certified packaging produced in Champagne.
